Caerphilly MP Wayne David has presented five tree saplings to the Caerphilly Miners Centre to mark a forest conservation initiative in recognition of the Queen’s lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.

Wayne David gave the saplings – two silver birch, two rowan and a hazel – to the Miners Centre Gardening Club.

Wayne David said “Trees are the cornerstone of our landscape and countryside and form an essential part of our cultural identity.  The Miners Centre is going from strength to strength and I look forward to seeing these trees grow as the Miners Centre increasingly becomes an important part of Caerphilly’s community”.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy is a network of forest conservation initiatives that recognise the Queen’s service to the Commonwealth.  The Woodland Trust and Sainsbury’s have joined together to provide Members of Parliament with saplings which serve to underline Her Majestys love of trees and forests.
