Wayne David Labour MP for Caerphilly, and Hefin David Member of the Senedd for Caerphilly have met with local blood contamination victim and campaigner Kirk Ellis of Caerphilly.

Mr Ellis presented Hefin and Wayne with a tie each in recognition of their support for the campaign for blood contaminated victims to be given compensation for what had happened to them.  Mr Ellis was himself given contaminated blood through the NHS.

A public inquiry into the blood contamination scandal is currently being conducted in London and, in principle it has been agreed that payments will be made by the Governments in Wales, Scotland , Northern Ireland, and England, although discussions are continuing about the precise details of the payments in Wales.

Wayne David MP said, “I have supported this campaign from the start.  This is a shocking scandal. It is right that compensation to victims is to be paid but we need to work hard to make sure that the details are worked out properly.”

The ties presented to Wayne and Hefin are made up of the following colours, yellow to represent Hepatitis C contamination, red to represent HIV contamination, and black in recognition of those victims who have sadly passed away.

Hefin David is Vice Chair of the Senedd’s Cross Party Group on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood. and is fully supportive of the campaign.
