Wayne David praises heart research which is saving lives

British Heart Foundation

Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has paid tribute to scientists from the British Heart Foundation who are helping to save and improve the lives of heart patients, including those from the Caerphilly constituency.

Mr David attended a British Heart Foundation event in Westminster where he met some of the scientists and learnt about the vital work they are doing, which is offering hope to people with heart conditions.

It is estimated that there are over 11,200 people living in the Caerphilly constituency who have heart and circulatory disease, while heart disease is currently responsible for 1 in 4 deaths in the UK.

The British Heart Foundation is the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research and spends around £100 million every year on world class research to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Speaking after the event Wayne David said, “The British Heart Foundation funded scientists do fantastic work and, over the years, they have made great progress in helping to reduce the number of deaths from heart disease. It is vital that this work receives the funding it needs to be able to continue.

“Heart disease is a devastating disease, which is estimated to affect over 11,000 people living in the Caerphilly constituency. With the public’s support, the British Heart Foundation are able to fund some of the world’s leading researchers, who work tirelessly to find the next major breakthrough that could help save even more lives.”
