Welcome to the July edition of our Monthly Bulletin, which provides you with the news of what is going on within the Caerphilly Constituency Labour Party.
Penyrheol ward by-election
This important by-election is taking place on Thursday 1 August. Plaid will be desperate to hang onto this seat and will pour resources into their campaign, but they are clearly worried, hence their decision to have a very short campaign at the start of the holiday season. However, we will fight them all the way until 10pm on Thursday 1 August when the poll closes.
We will be canvassing every evening from Monday to Friday, starting at 5:30pm and at 10:30am on Saturday mornings, meeting on each occasion at the car park to the rear of the Penyrheol Community Centre. The canvassing begins on Saturday 6 July.
I appeal to everyone to help us in this campaign, either canvassing as outlined above, or volunteering to deliver leaflets, or any other activity you feel able to offer. Our colleagues in the Islwyn and Rhymney constituencies will also be turning up to help, but I’m sure that Caerphilly colleagues will also be there in force.
As a result of this by-election we have decided to cancel our July GC Meeting scheduled for Friday 12 July, and rearrange the meeting for Friday 9 August, at the same time and venue, 6:30pm at the council chambers at Ty Penallta.
Motions for debate at the rearranged August GC meeting
Two Motions will be debated at our August meeting, a letter to the Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls, on the recent Government Spending Review and a motion on tax avoidance.
