Wayne David Labour MP for Caerphilly, Hefin David Labour AM for Caerphilly and prominent Plaid Cymru former AM, Lindsay Whittle, have agreed a joint statement urging voters in the Caerphilly Borough to vote “remain” in next week’s referendum.
In an unprecedented move the Labour and the Plaid Cymru politicians have agreed the following statement:
“The vote on 23 June is of critical importance. Although we have clear political differences, the three of us strongly believe that it is in the best interests of Wales and its people that there is a Remain vote. Wales benefits from our membership of the European Union, as does the Caerphilly Borough, and we believe that we would be worse off if we left the EU.
“Wales receives far more money from the EU than it puts in and in the Caerphilly Borough there are many projects and initiatives which are funded by the EU. If Britain pulls out of the EU we believe that it is extremely unlikely that the current Conservative Government will make up the shortfall.
“We want to see a prosperous and outward-looking Wales. That is why we are urging the people of the Caerphilly Borough to vote Remain.”
