Wayne David has met with the staff from the Raj of India Restaurant in Caerphilly, after nominating them for the Tiffin Cup award.
The Tiffin Cup is an annual competition which has been running since 2006. It is organised by the Tiffin Club, which is a group of cross-party Members of Parliament who love curry!
MPs can nominate a South Asian restaurant from their constituency that they have been impressed with. From these nominations 10 top restaurants are shortlisted for the regional final. These entrants will then be invited to cook at the Bellamy’s Restaurant in Westminster, where a selection of parliamentarians and celebrities will pick a winner.
This competition aims to raise the profile of South Asian food, its high quality and diversity. It also aims to raise money for charities, with this year’s proceeds going to WaterAid and World Vision.
Wayne David said, “I am very pleased to have nominated the Raj of India. Their food is superb and they definitely deserve the recognition that this competition will give them. My fiancée and I regularly eat here and I would certainly recommend it! I really believe the quality of their food could propel them to win this event”.
Moynul Islam, the manager if the Raj of India said that it “means the world to us” to be nominated.
