The Brext deal that Theresa May has secured is not in the UK's national interests

Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has stated that he will be voting against Theresa May’s Brexit deal.

It seems likely that the Prime Minister will present her deal with the European Union to Parliament during the next few weeks. Although the details of the deal are not yet available, the broad outlines appear clear.

In response to the agreement Wayne David has stated that he intends to vote against Theresa May’s deal when it is presented to Parliament. Mr David will vote against the agreement for the following reasons:

Firstly, the deal is bad news for the British people. It puts in danger the jobs of thousands of people and the prosperity of the country as a whole. Secondly, given the nature of the economy in the Rhymney Valley, it places a huge question mark over the economic strength of the area and threatens the ability of manufacturers to export to the hugely important European market. Thirdly, Theresa May’s package risks undermining the peace in Northern Ireland by cobbling together a so-called agreement which satisfies no one.

Wayne David said, “Theresa May has failed to secure a Brexit deal which is in the interests of the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister’s only interest has been to try to keep the Conservative Party together. If her agreement is passed by Parliament then it will be bad news for my constituents. It will undermine jobs and prosperity and will offer little hope for future generations. I will therefore by voting against the Prime Minister’s so-called deal”.
