Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has indicated that he will be supporting a ‘confirmatory public ballot’ on any withdrawal deal which is agreed by Parliament.

Later today (Wednesday 27 March), indicative votes will be held in the House of Commons on how the impasse on Brexit should be brought to an end. Mr David will be supporting options that will ensure that Britain leaves the EU but maintains a close political and economic relationship after departure.

Wayne David will also vote in favour of the electorate having the final say on any agreement which is reached.

Wayne David said, “I respect the decision of the electorate to leave the EU, but I am also aware that a poor deal will be bad for my constituents in terms of jobs and their economic prosperity. That is why I am supporting a leave deal which will safeguard people’s livelihoods. Once Parliament has agreed a deal, I believe that it is necessary to go back to the people for them to confirm that the deal has their support.

“I believe that such a Brexit deal and giving the final say to the people is the best way forward. At the end of the day, everyone in the country has to unite and bring to an end the painful divisions which Brexit and Theresa May have created”.
