The first meeting of the new Bargoed regeneration forum, held at Bargoed Town Council

Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly, with the support of Hefin David AM, has launched a new regeneration forum for the town centre of Bargoed.

At a well-attended, packed meeting in the Town Council offices in Bargoed, it was agreed that a concerted effort was needed to give fresh impetus to the regeneration of Bargoed town centre.

The meeting of local businesspeople heard from Hefin David AM, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council Cllr Sean Morgan and officers of the Council and officials from the Welsh Government. However, for the greater part of the meeting, which was chaired by Wayne David, local people had their say about what needed to be done.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that the forum should reconvene in six months’ time and consider specific work that was taking place and what is needed in the future.

After the meeting, Wayne David said, “This was an excellent meeting. There was optimism and plenty of ideas about how Bargoed might be improved. Everyone acknowledged that much had been done already, but there was a need for a big effort to take things forward and create real prosperity.

“Hefin David and I are determined to work with the Council and the Welsh Government to make sure that the regeneration is firmly on everyone’s agenda. In short, we are beating the drum for Bargoed!”
