Lloyds Bank have announced they plan to close their branch in Bargoed by 1 October

Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has called on Lloyds Bank to “think again” after they announced that their branch in Bargoed is set to close later this year.

In an email to Mr David, Lloyds said that the bank in Hanbury Road will close by 1 October. The 350 customers who Lloyds say use the bank regularly each month will instead have to travel to Blackwood or Ystrad Mynach if they want to use Lloyd’s counter services.

Mr David expressed his disappointment at the announcement by Lloyds, particularly as the information provided by the bank confirmed that the closure will impact Lloyds customers in the area from across the age spectrum.

Mr David said, “I regret the announcement by Lloyds Bank. The shutting of bank branches not only affects the customers who use the branch regularly, but it also damages local communities and high streets.

“I believe that we have a duty to ensure that there is basic banking infrastructure in our communities for all those who need it. Online banking is not something that is available for everyone. I will be working with Hefin David, the local Assembly Member and Bargoed’s councillors to oppose the closure of Lloyd’s branch in Hanbury Road”.
