Wayne David Labour MP for Caerphilly has urged his constituents to write to the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, about the death of George Floyd.

At Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, the leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, expressed his disappointment that the Prime Minister had not initially mentioned the death of George Floyd.  Keir Starmer said that it was important there is a strong condemnation of the killing from all Members of Parliament.

Echoing the words of Keir Starmer, Wayne David said that it was important for solidarity to be expressed by as many people as possible with the black people of America.  At a time when social distancing was still important, Mr David said that the most effective way to show solidarity was to write to the British Prime Minister in the strongest terms.  Boris Johnson needed to be told that he should condemn the killing of George Floyd, the racism of sections of the police in America and the inflammatory comments of President Trump.

Wayne David said “The death of George Floyd has shocked the world.  I urge as many people as possible to send an email to Boris Johnson at Number 10 Downing Street.  I would suggest that people should tell Boris Johnson to pick up the phone to President Trump and tell him that racism in the American police force needed to be rooted-out and that President Trump himself should stop making inflammatory remarks.  There is only one race – the human race.  That is the message which I hope will come from the people of Caerphilly”.
