The Department for Work and Pensions has decided to close five offices and relocate staff from them, including in Caerphilly, to a new hub in Treforest.

Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has reacted angrily to the announcement by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to relocate staff from five offices, including Caerphilly, to a new hub in Treforest.

The move to Treforest would involve closing five existing DWP offices, including Caerphilly Benefits Centre where 225 staff are employed.

Wayne David said, “The closure of the Caerphilly office will have a detrimental impact on Caerphilly town centre. Caerphilly desperately needs more offices, not fewer at a time when efforts are being made to rejuvenate the town centre. Moving staff out of Caerphilly will inevitably have a negative impact on the town.”
