Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has said that he will vote in favour of the Government triggering Article 50 to begin the process of Britain leaving the European Union.
Tomorrow (Wednesday 1 February) the House of Commons will vote on the Second Reading of the Bill to invoke Article 50 of the European Union treaty. Wayne David hopes to speak in the debate on Article 50 later today.
Wayne David said, “I campaigned for Britain to remain part of the European Union, but I accept that the vote went the other way. This decision I respect and I accept. Once Article 50 has been triggered, as I believe it should, the key question is how we make sure that Britain leaves the EU without causing damage to the economy and people’s livelihoods.
“Britain faces an uncertain time ahead and we must not lose sight of the fact that the Tory Government will use every opportunity to weaken workers’ rights and undermine environmental protection. As a Labour MP, I consider it to be my responsibility to hold the Government to account and to do my best to ensure that Britain has a positive future outside of the EU.”
