Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has today launched a campaign for a direct bus service from Caerphilly to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

Mr David is urging constituents to write to the Stagecoach bus company calling for some of the bus routes to be altered so that there is a regular bus service from the Caerphilly area directly to the Royal Gwent Hospital. At present, buses from the Caerphilly area all go to the Newport Bus Station and then a second bus has to be taken to the hospital.

Wayne David said, “Local people have pointed out to me that although there is a direct bus service to the Heath Hospital in Cardiff, there is no direct service from Caerphilly to the Royal Gwent. Car parking is a huge problem at the Royal Gwent and a large number of local people rely on the bus service. It seems to me entirely reasonable that at least some of the buses go directly to the hospital, given that this is a major District General Hospital which serves the Caerphilly area.

“Stagecoach have indicated to me that they are considering making changes to the bus routes from Caerphilly to the Royal Gwent and it is therefore important that constituents write to Stagecoach urging them to make the changes.”

Constituents who would like to see a new bus route from the Caerphilly area to the Royal Gwent Hospital should contact Stagecoach South Wales in support of the idea of this change to the bus route. The company can be contacted by sending an email to southwales.enquiries@stagecoachbus.com
