Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has said that he is “delighted” that Keir Starmer has been elected as the new Leader of the Labour Party.
Keir Starmer won a decisive victory, winning in the first round of ballots and picking up more than 56% of all the votes cast by Labour Party members and supporter.
Responding to the announcement, Wayne David said that he was sure the new Labour Party Leader has all the qualities to be an effective leader of the Opposition and to be a brilliant Prime Minister.
Wayne David added, “I strongly supported Keir in this campaign, and he was nominated by the Labour Party here in Caerphilly. He brings incredible experience, a brilliant mind and he is also a really down to earth character who relates well to people. As a leader, he will listen to people and build a team around him who come from across the Labour Party.”
Speaking after he had been announced as the new Labour Party Leader, Keir Starmer said, ““We’ve got a mountain to climb, but we will climb it, and I will do my utmost to reconnect us across the country, to re-engage with our communities and voters, to establish a coalition across our towns and our cities and our regions with all creeds and communities to speak for the whole of the country. Where that requires change, we will change. Where that requires us to rethink, we will rethink.”
