Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has condemned the Conservatives for voting in the House of Commons to prevent the suspension of Tory MP Owen Paterson for ‘corruption’.

Last night, the Tories threw out a report that said the Tory MP Owen Paterson should be suspended for 30 days because he had broken Parliamentary rules for paid lobbying for two companies.

After a lengthy and detailed investigation, the independent Parliamentary Standards Commissioner has found that Mr Paterson broke House of Commons rules 18 times by lobbying government bodies on behalf of the two companies, who employed him as a paid consultant for more than £100,000 a year.

Wayne David said, “What happened last night was an utter disgrace. It is shocking that the Conservative Party is condoning practices that are corrupt. The only lobbying I do is on behalf of my constituents.

“This vote shows that the Conservative Party is the Party of privilege, vested interests and corruption. This appalling vote last night has exposed the truth about Boris Johnson and his cronies.”
