Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has visited Berlin and Washington D.C to discuss the war in Ukraine and how the allies should respond to the international crisis.

Wayne David accompanied Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, and Shadow Defence Secretary, John Healey to Berlin. They spoke with MPs drawn from a number of European countries how best to help Ukraine and its people, following the invasion by Russia. Top of the agenda was how best to support the millions of refugees from Ukraine and how NATO’s defences can effectively be strengthened against Russian aggression.

Following the meeting in Berlin, Wayne David then travelled to Washington to meet U.S lawmakers. They discussed the situation in Ukraine and how the UK and the U.S can strengthen their relationship within the context of NATO.

Wayne David said “The world is facing its gravest crisis since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. It is extremely important to work closely with our allies in Europe and the United States to make sure that the whole of the ‘free’ world speaks and acts as one. What is happening in Ukraine is unbelievably barbaric and it is vital that we stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and do our utmost to prevent the war escalating, while strengthening our own military defences”.
