Wayne David, Labour MP for Caerphilly, has expressed his profound concern with the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on his constituents.

Renowned pollsters Survation have conducted a survey on behalf of campaign group ’38 Degrees’, which sets out the main worries of residents across the Caerphilly constituency.

A quarter of those interviewed fear they might be made homeless or will be unable to afford rent, and almost a third are worried that they will need to use a food bank.

Most concerningly, 71% of people interviewed are cutting back on their essential groceries, proving that many are having to make the choice between eating and heating.

These figures are matched across the country. Nearly six in ten people are cutting back spending on essentials, and almost half have seen their household income drop over the last year. Working people are struggling with rising energy bills and food costs whilst inflation continues to soar.

Kwasi Kwarteng’s unfunded tax cuts, purposefully avoiding scrutiny from the Office of Budget Responsibility, have directly contributed to rising mortgages across England and Wales. This will add to the pressures ordinary people will feel, not just across the winter months, but for years to come.

Wayne David MP said “This is an extremely worrying survey. It shows that the residents of Caerphilly are being hit hard by the ham-fisted and extreme policies of the Conservative central Government”.
