Wayne David went to Serbia on a cross-party parliamentary visit

Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly and Shadow Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister, has just returned from a parliamentary visit to Serbia.

During his visit, Mr David met with a range of senior politicians in the Serbian Parliament, British businesspeople and local government representatives in Serbia. On more than one occasion, a number of Serbian people referred to Caerphilly and the work of the Caerphilly Fire Station through the initiative called ‘Blazing to Serbia’.

Wayne David said, “It was truly amazing that Caerphilly Fire Station, and the work of Station Commander at the time, Steve Logan, were referred to and in such an appreciative way. Large numbers of people, especially outside of the capital Belgrade, gave me a tremendous welcome when they realised that I was from Caerphilly. This was because they remembered the amazing efforts of Steve Logan and his team in bringing from South Wales much needed fire engines.

“The many references I heard about Caerphilly and the fire engines made me truly proud to represent the constituency.”

‘Blazing to Serbia’ was a project that saw 27 fire engines donated to communities in Serbia. These were older engines which were really appreciated in Serbia. The fire engines came from different parts of South Wales, but Steve Logan, the Station Commander in Caerphilly, was the project’s guiding light. He was awarded an MBE for his outstanding work.
